Baucis and Philemon: A Greek myth rewritten for kids

Once in a town in Greece there lived a couple who were quite poor. One day a beggar came to their door way. Baucis and Philemon let the beggar in, they said” We don’t have much, but what we have is yours.” Baucis and Philemon offered the beggar every thing that they had which was:
a few eggs, a cabbage, a loaf of bread and the last bit of pomegranate juice that Baucis and Philemon had left to drink Baucis and Philemon wrapped the warmest robe that they had around the beggar  Baucis and Philemon said, We wish there were more to give you but we are poor people now,” “Nay!” the beggar said, not wishing to offend the old man, Baucis and Philemon looked again into the cabinets and cupboards and they could not believe their eyes there was fresh foods to eat and fresh juices to drink now it was Zeus the Greek god standing before Baucis and Philemon Zeus said, “I grant you a wish,”  and Philemon said, “We wish that we would never have to live without the other,” and then Zeus went back up to his house in the clouds. Baucis and Philemon grew into trees, their arms became branches and their feet became roots but Baucis and Philemon were two different trees growing from the same trunk, one was a linden and one was a oak.
